On behalf of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), I wish to address and clarify the distinction between the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), and the Mediation Training Institute (MTI) due to growing confusion among our members, professionals in the ADR space, and the public.
In the past, under a collaborative agreement, MTI had the mandate to advertise, represent, and conduct mediation training on behalf of ICMC. However, this arrangement is no longer in operation, and both organizations now operate independently, with no affiliation or collaborative agreement.
It is important to emphasize that ICMC and MTI are separate and distinct entities with independent leadership, governance, and operational structures, despite both being involved in the dispute resolution field.
For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to make it clear that MTI DOES NOT REPRESENT OR OPERATE ON BEHALF OF ICMC IN ANY CAPACITY.
As Nigeria’s foremost professional body for mediation and conciliation, ICMC remains committed to directing mediation practice, providing comprehensive training, and promoting alternative dispute resolution as an effective tool for peaceful conflict resolution.
We urge all stakeholders to take note of this distinction and direct all ICMC-related inquiries and matters exclusively through our official channels.
