Call for Submissions: ICMC Journal (Mediation Scope)

Invitation to Contribute to the Advancement of Mediation and ADR

The Editorial Board of The Mediation Scope, a mediation Journal, published by the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), is accepting submissions for its maiden edition. We seek original and insightful contributions focused on mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), promoting peaceful conflict resolution and professional growth in the field

Submission Categories
  • Articles: In-depth analyses and discussions on current ADR topics, offering fresh perspectives or practical guidance.
  • Case Commentaries: Notes, comments, or reviews on emerging issues in mediation, negotiation, ADR and conflict resolution generally.
  • Book Reviews: Reviews of new or significant publications relevant to Mediation and/or ADR practice.
  • Letters to the Editor: Thoughtful opinions or reflections on recent developments in the field.
Submission Guidelines
  • Scope: Submissions should address contemporary and relevant issues in mediation or ADR, geared toward practitioners, professionals, and ADR users.
  • Length: Articles should be at least 2,000 words. Shorter works (e.g., book reviews, case notes, or letters) may be accepted at the Editorial Board’s discretion.
  • Originality: All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Legal Compliance: Content must not contain libellous or unlawful material, nor infringe upon the rights or copyright of others.
  • Author Information: Include your full name, professional title, postal and email addresses, phone number, and any academic or professional affiliations.
  • Abstract: Each article must have an abstract (up to 150 words) summarising its main points.
  • Editorial Discretion: The Editorial Board reserves the right to select and edit articles for clarity and coherence, consulting the author if significant changes are needed.
  • Language and Style: All submissions should conform to British English spelling, punctuation, and grammatical conventions.
  • References and Footnotes: References must be provided as footnotes (not endnotes), numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. The first footnote (marked with an asterisk) should contain author affiliations and acknowledgements.
Citation and Reference Format:
  • Books: Author’s full name, Title in Italics (Edition, Year, Publisher) at Page Number. Example: John James, Mediation Practice (3rd ed., 2025, Mediate Press) at 25.
  • Chapters/Articles in Edited Volumes: Author’s full name, “Chapter Title” in Editor’s Name (ed), Book Title (Year, Publisher) at Page Number.
  • Journal Articles: Author’s full name, “Article Title” (Year) Volume Journal Name, Page Number.
  • Newspapers: Author’s full name, “Title” (Date of Publication) Newspaper at Page Number.
  • Cases: Names should be italicised and follow the citation style required by the editors of the relevant law report.
  • Presentations: Presenter Surname, First Initial. Second Initial. (Year, Month Day-Day). Presentation title [Format]. Conference Name, Location. E.g Pearson, J. (2018, September 27-30). Fat talk and its effects on state-based body image in women [Poster presentation]. Australian Psychological Society Congress, Sydney, NSW, Australia.
  • Website article with author: e.g Spritzler, F. (2017, January 29). 13 ways to prevent type 2 diabetes. Healthline. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/prevent-diabetes
  • Website article without author or date: E.g What are pulses? (n.d.). Half-Cup Habit. https://pulses.org/nap/what-are-pulses/
  • Magazine article, online, no volume issue or pages. E.g. Beck, J. (2015, May 3). Science’s love affair with The Lord of the Rings. The Atlantic. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2015/0
Submission Process:
  • All submissions must be in Microsoft Word format and sent by email to: journal@icmcng.org
  • Submission format should be in Times New Roman font size 12 with a 1.5 line spacing.
  • Include “Submission – [Author’s Name]” in the email subject line.
  • Authors will receive a confirmation email upon receipt of their submission.
  • The deadline for submissions for this maiden edition is the 30th day of October, 2025.
