Meet our Discussant – Dr. Onyinye Onwuka

Head of Mediation and Coordination of Regional Political Affairs Division, Directorate of Political Affairs, the ECOWAS Commission, Abuja, Nigeria. She is also the Coordinator of WPS Advisory Committee at the Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (PAPS), ECOWAS Commission, where she is actively engaged in the mainstreaming of the UNSCR 1325 (and subsequent Resolutions) into the department’s activities. Dr. Onwuka was the Head of ECOWAS Early Warning Analysis Division. Prior to her career in ECOWAS, she was head of Collective Defence and Security Division at the Nigerian Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Abuja.

Educational Qualification and Work Experience:

Onyinye Onwuka has a PhD in History and International Studies from the Imo State University, Nigeria and a Diploma in Peace and Security, Department of Peace & Conflict Research, from Uppsala University, Sweden.

Dr. Onwuka is one of the facilitators for the Regional Integrated Analysis module at the United Nations System Staff College. She is an Instructor and Advisory Fellow at Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, (AIPR) Raphael Lemkin Seminar for the Prevention of Genocide, Poland. Onyinye is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC). She was a lead Facilitator at the International Training on Demobilization, Disarmament and Re-integration (DDR), Course, Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Centre (KAIPTC), Ghana and a Consultant for the development of the Curriculum for the Facilitators’ Conflict Prevention Manual, of the International Peace Support Training Centre, Karen, Kenya (IPSTC) .
