Ms. Leyla Ahmed is an advocate and an associate in the Dispute Resolution department of TripleOKLaw LLP Advocates specializing in commercial litigation, employment & labour disputes, defamation and constitutional & human rights matters.
She represents parties both in mediation and arbitration proceedings and has sat as Arbitration Tribunal. She is well versed with anti-money laundering and bribery legislation in Kenya, the civil and criminal liability of the companies and their management, the obligation of the companies to establish and maintain internal reporting procedures and has advised a leading telecommunication company in this regard. She also represents clients in both mediation and arbitration proceedings.
She is a Commissioner of oaths; a certified mediator and has been provisionally accredited by the Mediation Accreditation Committee (MAC) of the Judiciary of Kenya. She sits as a member of the Commercial Bar Bench Committee; the Court Annexed Mediation Committee and was instrumental in the formation of the Kadhis Court Bar Bench Committee where she is currently the co-convener.
Ms. Ahmed is an Arbitrator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London & Kenya branch). She was nominated for recognition as one of Africa’s 50 Most Promising Young Arbitration Practitioners in 2020, an initiative of the Association of Young Arbitrators (AYA). In September 2020, she was appointed as an African Ambassador, Arbitrator Intelligence, a global information aggregator that collects feedback about arbitrators after arbitration has concluded through a confidential, anonymized online questionnaire. Ms. Leyla Ahmed was the winner of the Young Lawyer of the Year Award in the Nairobi Legal Award 2020.
She has also been a key contributor to the editorial team of The Above Standard, the TripleOKLaw LLP newsletter. Leyla has co-authored a number of publications including the Kenyan Chapter of the International Comparative Legal Guide – Business Crime 2019 ; as well Kenya’s chapter, within The Legal 500 Comparative Guide on Bribery & Corruption 2019 and 2020. She was part of the team that prepared a desktop review on Kenya’s Law and Disaster Preparedness and Response, a Multi-Country Synthesis 2019 Report by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
She will be speaking on; Aligning Mediation Skills Training with Mediation Practices for Peace Building, Security and Sustainable Development in Nigeria
