About Us

“National Association of Mediators (NAM) was the beginning of organizing mediation enthusiasts as separate from general ADR practitioners. At that time the distinction between mediation and arbitration was emerging in the ADR field, and while the Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (UK) Nigeria branch were pushing for visibility of ADR, arbitration in particular, NAM was also raising mediation as more useful tool”

The Institute is the umbrella body of dispute resolution practitioners that regulates and sets standards for the practice of Mediation and Conciliation. She also trains, certifies and inducts candidates as professional mediators and conciliators. ICMC has been building critical mass of ADR practitioners, cutting across all major disciplines and fields of human endeavour. Membership of the Institute remains open to all professionals including, but not limited to, lawyers, jurists, bankers, the police, the armed forces and other paramilitary agencies, government regulatory agencies, civil and labour administrators, professionals and consultants, political and religious leaders, traditional rulers, union leaders and others who find themselves in leadership, management or mentorship positions.

The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) is the professional body of practitioners in Nigeria that regulates and sets standards for the practice of Mediation and Conciliation and encourages organizations and institutions to adopt Mediation and Conciliation as the primary mechanisms for addressing disputes. ICMC also trains and certifies professional Mediators and Conciliators, and inducts them into the Institute as Associate Members (AICMC), Members (MICMC) and Fellows (FICMC).
