Meet our Speaker – Dr. Agada Elachi, SAN, FICMC, FCIArb. – Past President, ICMC

He is a founding Partner and presently the Managing Partner at Greenfield Chamber. Agada Elachi holds a Degree in Law (LL.B) from the University of Jos, Plateau State. He attended the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, and was called to the Nigerian Bar on the 28th of September 1999. He is also a Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
 
He holds a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in Public Policy and Administration specializing in Terrorism Mediation and Peace from the prestigious Walden University (USA).
He holds a postgraduate degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan and is a member of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP). He also holds a Master’s Degree in Law from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nasarawa State.
 
He has been engaged in active legal practice with a bias for the resolution of disputes outside the conventional Litigation system. He has varied experience in the practice of law covering areas like commercial law and company practice.
 
He is a qualified and certified Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) capital market operator. He is also actively engaged in investment and real estate’s practice, advising individual Clients and corporations.
 
Agada has more than two decade’s experience as an Alternative Dispute Resolution expert with a bias for Mediation and Arbitration. He is a certified Mediator and Conciliator and currently holds the fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (Nigeria). He is a life-member of the governing council of the Institute, and served as President from 2020 – 2023.
 
He is also a certified Arbitrator, and holds a diploma in International Commercial Arbitration (CIArb and Keble College, Oxford) and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). He is also a fellow of International Institute of Leadership and Governance (Nigeria).
 
As a Mediator he has been engaged in the resolution of a broad range of disputes amongst which are family and domestic mediation, real estate/leasehold related disputes, telecommunications and IT related matters, commercial (banking and finance related issues) and inheritance and probate issues just to mention a few.
He is also a certified professional in managing workplace conflict and has been involved in facilitating the resolution of labour/management disputes.
He is a certified trainer of Mediators and leads training in mediation skills; negotiation skills, effective communication and conflict analysis just to mention a few.
 
He has served as Arbitrator in several matters on a wide range of issues including but not limited to defence contracts, power/energy contracts, construction contracts, oil and gas, telecommunications, and real estate development matters.
 
He is also listed on the training faculty of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). He is an active member of the Abuja Chapter of the Nigerian Branch of the Chartered Institute (UK) and is actively involved in promoting the practice of Arbitration.
 
He has acted as a resource person and still consults for several training organizations on Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice. Some of these organizations are the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), the Justice for All Programme (J4A) of the DFID, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Settlement House, the International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation Abuja, and Legal Defence Assistance Programme (LEDAP). He also consults for ECOWAS Commission, and GIZ.
 
He is listed as a member of the panel of Associate Mediators/Panel of Neutrals (body of ADR specialist) for several organizations. Some of these are Global Mediation (UK), Kigali International Arbitration Centre, Abuja Multi-Door Court House, Kano Multi-Door Court House, and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
 
He attends conferences locally and internationally in pursuit of knowledge and networking opportunities. He has a more than passing interest in the academia and served for two years as an external resource person for the Benue State University, Makurdi (Abuja Study Centre). He is currently an adjunct lecturer (on a pro bono basis) at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Nasarawa State where he teaches international commercial arbitration, negotiation, mediation, and conciliation, and introduction to Alternative Dispute Resolution.
 
Agada has keen interest in professional development and networking and as such holds membership of several professional bodies. Some of these are: Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Mediation Training Institute International (MTII), Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), African Arbitration Association (AAA).
 
He has served in different capacities and on different committees within and without the professional circle. He was the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja (Unity) Branch (2014-2016). He has also served the Bar Association in several other capacities at the branch and national level. He sits on the governing council and the board of several organizations including Non-governmental organizations.
 
He is currently the Chairman of the board of directors of PILLAR Micro-finance Bank Ltd. He also sits on the board of Layer3 Limited. He is an avid lover of sports and is a member of the IBB International Golf Club, Abuja. In his spare time, he loves to read and write.
